How a Magnet Business Can Be a Profitable, Low-Cost Side Hustle (That You Can Start from Home!)

Why More People Are Turning to Magnet Businesses

If you're here, chances are you've been searching for a side hustle that actually works—one that doesn’t require a massive investment or quitting your job. You're looking for something simple, affordable, flexible, and ideally… something you can actually enjoy doing.

Well, I’m here to tell you that a custom magnet business might just be the hidden gem you’ve been looking for.

Whether you're a busy parent, a full-time employee, or someone craving creative freedom, this business model allows you to start small, grow steadily, and scale as your schedule and goals allow.

Let me explain exactly why it's worked for me—and how it can work for you too.

Start with a Few Hundred… or Go All In

One of the best things about a magnet business is its low barrier to entry.

You can absolutely start with a small budget of a few hundred dollars—just enough to get a basic printer, a beginner magnet press, some glossy paper, adhesive, and blank magnet supplies.

But if you want to hit the ground running with more tools, machines, and materials, you can go bigger. Personally, I started Magnetic Treasures Co. with a $5,000 budget. I put that amount on a credit card and told myself I’d pay it off as soon as the business took off.

Guess what? After just a few months of focused effort—showing up online, improving my designs, and learning through trial and error—I’m nearly there. I now make daily sales, and my business is gaining consistent traction, all with just a few thousand followers on TikTok.

You don’t need to go viral. You just need to start.

You Don’t Have to Quit Your Day Job

I built this business during my "in-between" hours:

  • While my kids napped

  • After bedtime routines

  • On weekends

  • Early mornings when the house was still quiet

This isn’t a side hustle that demands 40 extra hours a week or dramatic life changes. It’s a business that fits into your schedule, your pace, and your lifestyle.

In fact, most of the magnet makers I know started it while working full-time or raising young kids—just like me.

No Fancy Degree Required

You don’t need a background in design, marketing, or business to succeed here. Everything I’ve learned, I’ve picked up through research, testing, and eventually—by creating a system that worked.

Let’s Talk About the Money

Here’s the part everyone wants to know: Is a magnet business actually profitable?

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: It can be very profitable—with consistency, creativity, and a smart system.

Most custom magnets cost between $0.40 and $0.85 to make. I sell:

  • Singles for $5 each

  • 9-packs for $24.99

  • Bulk orders starting at $3 per magnet

Here’s what that can look like in real numbers:
50 magnets at $3 each = $150
Cost to make = around $20–$35
Potential profit = $115+

Now let’s talk time:
It takes me about 10 minutes to complete a 9-pack order. If I get a few orders a day, I can make and ship everything in under an hour—and still bring in a solid income.

You don’t need a warehouse or a team to get started. Just a simple setup, a strategy—and the drive to build something real.

These numbers aren’t exaggerated. And once you start getting bulk orders, repeat buyers, and local partnerships—it only grows from there.

Real People Are Making Real Money with Magnets

Still wondering if this business is too good to be true? Let me give you some real-world inspiration.

  • Magnet Memories Co. made over $1,000,000 in a single year selling custom magnets.

  • HeartPrinted brings in around $500,000 annually just from magnets.

  • SnapMagnets is reportedly earning $23,000 per month, working 16-hour days, 6 days a week.

Are these overnight successes? No. These are the result of consistent marketing, great product quality, and a deep understanding of their audience.

But they prove that magnets can be more than just a side hustle—they can be a full-time business if that’s your goal.

Why Magnets Are Easy to Sell and Ship

Magnets are:

  • Lightweight and affordable to ship

  • Durable and don’t break easily

  • Flat, which means they fit in standard mailers

  • Great for bundling or sample packs

It’s easy to send a custom sample to a local business, school, or event coordinator—often for under $2-5 in postage. That makes outreach simple and budget-friendly.

Plus, I include a branded magnet with a QR code on the back of every order, so customers always have a way to reorder quickly and easily. It’s like a business card—but way more likely to stick around on their fridge.

You Don’t Need a Studio to Get Started

Your kitchen counter. A folding table. A corner of your desk. That’s all you need.

This is a business that doesn’t require a studio or storage room. I started with a simple setup at home, and only as my sales increased did I expand into a studio space.

So don’t wait to have the perfect setup. Start with what you have.

Anyone Can Be Your Customer

One of my favorite things about this business is that it’s not tied to one industry or niche. I also run a live motorsports tour—and for that business, we can only sell to event organizers.

But magnets? They’re for everyone:

  • Families

  • Moms & dads

  • Schools

  • Brides

  • Small businesses

  • Pet lovers

  • Memorials

  • Fundraisers

  • Photographers

  • Coaches

  • Grandparents

If someone has a photo or a story they want to share, they’re a potential customer.
